Foreword by Venerable Master Hua. Discusses the five periods and the eight teachings of the Tian Tai School and then analyzes the School’s Five Profound Meanings as they relate to the Sutra. The last portion tells of the life Tripitaka Master Kumarajiva, who translated the Sutra from Sanskrit into Chinses.
I. Introduction
Describes the setting for the speaking of the Sutra, the assembly that gathered to hear it, the Buddha’s emission of light, the questions asked by Maitreya Bodhisattva, and the response given by Manjushri Bodhisattva.
Very few Buddhist Sutras begin with an entire chapter of introduction. Before any sutra was spoken, six requirements had to be met. This chapter describes the fulfilling of those six.
